Future Data Summit Live @BioRex
Dreamweaver's Echo is coming to Helsinki! Come see the two-meter glass unicorn at Lasipalatsi's BioRex on October 16th, 2024! The piece is part of the Future Data Summit's Green AI event, which focuses on the data center and cloud industry.
Now, the unicorn takes center stage at an event where experts and decision-makers discuss how to navigate the challenges of technology and sustainability. It's in places like these that we need a reminder that not all knowledge is visible.
This year, the focus will be particularly on Green AI solutions, which play a key role in building the future. The event will feature speakers such as Kai Mykkänen, the data center portfolio lead at Google Edu Albuquerque, IEA energy analyst Dr. Eren Çam, and Microsoft CEO Mervi Airaksinen.
Echo, handcrafted from glass, symbolizes how we drown in information and forget the ability to dream. It represents innocence, and its surface is coded with a message that invited to think how there are other ways to see than just looking. The code has yet to be cracked by anyone—will it succeed at Bio Rex?
The tradition of glassmaking, part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage, is passed down through touch—it's a part of our humanity that connects us to one another. Echo filters reality, splits the light it passes through into red and blue wavelengths. It is challenging us to reflect on our own perspectives. As we shift our gaze, we can see each other in a new light. Where will our dreams and our touch reside in the future?
At the BioRex event, discussions will focus on the electricity consumption of data centers, which, according to an IEA report, is expected to double by 2026. The debates will also delve into the ethical concerns and regulation of AI, as well as the opportunities and challenges of Green AI—drawing particularly from experiences in Ireland. Microsoft will highlight the importance of innovation and responsibility in achieving a carbon-negative future.
The AI that steals dreams, showcased in Venice, is closely tied to the themes of the Future Data Summit, as it raises questions about the ethical use of data centers and AI. However, the AI won't be visible at Bio Rex, as the artwork can also be detached and experienced independently. Sini Majuri's Dreamweaver exhibited in Murano combines contemporary glass and artificial intelligence. The technical elements seen at Berengo Studio are created by the Aalto University team, including Jarkko Takala, Tung Bui, Ken Burridge, and Vivienne Wang, forming a space where art and technology merge. The massive two-meter glass artwork was produced by Essis By Lasilinkki in Kuopio. The leaf gold seen in the show is by Kultaus Oy Snellman.
How can we innovate responsibly? As we chart a path toward a sustainable future, let's ensure our technological ambitions reflect our commitment to ethical practices.
